The Projectors' 'Babu's First Flight' is an indie rock band's debut single, reinterpreted as a live band performance with a modern sound. Recording took place over 2 nights and 1 day at Studio NOL, where drums and electric guitar were captured on analog tape layers, while vocals and bass were recorded in parallel using a digital workstation.
During mixing, the core challenge was maintaining the band's original energy while achieving a clean sound. Particular care was taken in spatially placing guitar riffs and vocal melodies, applying equalization so each instrument could be clearly heard in its own frequency range. Layered vocal harmonies were widened in stereo image while keeping the central lead vocal clear.
Mastering optimized the listening experience across streaming platforms while preserving analog warmth. Dynamic range was adjusted to meet LUFS standards for Spotify, Apple Music, and YouTube Music, while retaining the energy and dynamics characteristic of rock music.
