Kim Dong-san and Blue Neighbors' 'Ripple' is a folk-rock single where each band member's character crosses like ripples to form one current. To preserve live band ensemble texture while keeping the vocal narrative centered, both arrangement and recording sought the point where ensemble energy and lyrical density satisfy simultaneously.
Recording captured the rhythm section's basic tracks live, then overdubbed vocals and solo lines separately. Drums were primarily captured with overhead-focused stereo miking to establish spatial depth, and acoustic guitar was widened via two-microphone capture to create a 'flowing' rhythmic feel. Vocals were captured with a microphone offering mid-range warmth, with direction focused on clear articulation of every syllable.
In mixing, we divided the low-frequency bands so the drums and bass wouldn't interfere, and guitars were spread moderately across the stereo field to leave room for the vocal. Reverb blended medium-length plate with a short room to capture the immediacy of a band gathered in one space. Mastering balanced car-listening and earphone-listening considerations.
The finished track suits driving playlists or listening environments that enjoy band sound. A single where the texture of ensemble playing stays alive.
