Jinu Konda's 'Burn In Hell' is an alternative-rock single carrying linear energy like its title. With vocals that spit emotion bordering on anger and firm guitar riffs at the center, 'not losing energy' was the baseline across every process from recording to mastering.
Vocal recording used a Shure SM7B to secure the thickness of close proximity delivery. The directional core was preserving the texture right before the voice cracks on high-note sections, and we captured multiple takes at varying gain stages, selecting the roughest-grained take as the main in editing. Guitar was simultaneously miked with a dynamic and a ribbon microphone in front of the amp, and mid-range density was designed in the mix by ratio-blending the two sources.
In mixing, we intentionally gain-staged the drum room microphones high to blend natural distortion tone, and bass highs were preserved so pick attack would stay clear. Reverb was used almost not at all — only short room sensation remained — creating the texture of shouting in an enclosed space. Mastering secured sufficient loudness while avoiding clipping of transients.
The finished track is best suited to car audio or high-volume headphone playback. A single premised on a listening environment that absorbs energy directly.
